I think summer business casual outfits for women are some of the hardest to put together because my office is freezing and it is steaming hot outside. You don’t want to look like you forgot what season it is and you don’t want to melt on your commute to work. The key to summer office outfits is utilizing summery colors, lightweight fabrics, and layering. These are some summer business casual wardrobe essentials for women. This post is about what to wear to work in the summer while looking easy breezy and polished while not freezing with the typical office arctic A/C.
All because it is hot outside does not give you a pass to dress unprofessionally. Remember no strappy tank tops, try to keep most of te shoulder covered if wearing a tank, nothing “off the shoulder”, skirts and dresses need to be knee length, no shorts, and no flip flops or sandals you would wear to the beach. Check out this post where I go into depth about business casual dress code.
The great think about a good a pair of pants in a neutral colors is that you can wear them year round. I love a good wide leg trouser and a more tapered ankle pant. These types of pants are versitle for year round and worth the investment. A wide leg pant is very airy and a cropped pant can show off a cute summer shoe.
I love these cream loafers for summer. Boat shoes are also making a resurgence. These are a fun departure from your typical black loafers, flats and boots. I would recommend something like this.
I love a linen button down. They are airy, comfortable and still provide some warmth in a cold office. You can style by using it has a laying piece over a tank or t-shirt. You can’t go wrong with black or white for a super chic look.
A denim shirt is one of the most worn pieces in my business casual wardrobe. They are one of the most versatile tops and great for a cold office in the summer since they provide more warmth than a regular cotton shirt. You can wear it on its own untucked, tucked in, or as a layer. It can be dressed up or down. These are my favorite, I want them in every color.
Any sweater in a summery color or light neutral works for summer business casual in a freezing office, even it it is a wintery fabric. A sweater offers optimal warmth in a cold office. Wear the sweater over a crisp white tee and throw it over your shoulders when you go outside to keep from overheating.
